Today we live in a world filled with activity, information, and self-centered people. Our lives rarely lack options. Temptations abound. Even Christians get caught up in selfish ambition as we pursue the American dream. Money, romance, achievement, children, technology, popularity, success, power, recognition, fame, personal fulfillment - these are the "gods" of the 21st century.
But what does Jesus say? His voice may sound distant and far away - muted by the roar of the crowd. But, if you listen his message is still the same: "Come to me, all of you who labor and are heavy-laden and over burdened, and I will cause you to rest - I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls." (Matt 11:28 - The Amplified Bible)
Is it time for a fresh start - a new beginning in your life? Our God specializes in new beginnings: He is the Master Counselor who offers us fresh hope and new opportunities for growth each day. When did you last ask him to search you and change you? Are you living out your fantasies or are you following Christ's call?
My prayer for you today is that you will ask Jesus to be more real to you than any other "god" in your life. In your quiet times with the Lord, listen expectantly for His words of encouragement, wait for His hand of healing, and reach for intimacy with him. God will not disappoint us or withhold any good thing. He is our loving Father - the Daddy who longs for time with His dear children. Why not climb up into his lap and enjoy his affection and forgiveness? If there is some pet sin you are still holding onto, give it to him and let him give you something better. Maybe you need more faith or more courage or more love. Maybe you have lost hope. Maybe you have lost yourself in the whirlwind of busy living. Whatever you need, God knows. Trust him today to give you a new beginning - a new perspective, a new attitude toward your mate or your child, a new appreciation for the gift of life. Whatever you need, ask. God is waiting for an opportunity to give you the very best gifts - and sometimes they come dressed as difficulties or challenges. Do not despair, do not be afraid. He is with you. He goes before you and walks by your side. He surrounds you with protection and loves you with perfect love. Today, let Jesus shine deep within your soul and watch as He transforms you from a broken pot into a translucent vessel of pure light. It might take a little time for your transformation to reach completion, but Jesus is the Master Potter and his strong nail-scarred hands will never let you down. He knows your pain and He knows your darkest places. Let His light break through like the dawn.
Please pray with me: "Father of Light, shine through me today - may your light in me become brighter and brighter until all darkness flees. I trust You and I wait expectantly for Your return. May I be all You want me to be - make me completely Yours. Thank you for these moments of peace and healing in Your presence. Thank you for new birth in Christ, for forgiveness, freedom from past sin and guilt and for new beginnings each day. Amen."
